Under Construction: I am still collecting data, pictures and sources. Since I think Cernunnos and similar deities, by whatever name, known or unknown, was one of the principal pre-Irish, Celtic deities, I want to consider him in as much depth as possible. please email me (bill501@mindspring.com) if you have any thoughts, comments or suggestions.

Bronze relief of a bust from a chariot grave of the late fourth century B.C. at Waldalgesheim, Germany; it evidently decorated some part of the chariot or horse trappings. The figure rises from a ledge in such a way as to suggest the familiar squatting or 'Buddhic' posture. This, together with the fact that the head is decorated with what appear to be two elaborate horns, suggests an affinity with the 'Cernunnos' deity. The arms are raised in the so-called orans position, as in the reliefs of several deities on the Gundestrup cauldron and the rock carving of the antlered god at Val Camonica (see page 49). The trunk and upper arms are decorated with a tendril design which is found on other objects from the same grave and which may here represent a cloak. Rheinisches Landesmuseum, Bonn.
